Appreciating The Now

For those of us in College/High School, we are all super excited to get started with our lives after we graduate, to get a “real” job, to be living on our own, etc. We are so excited for the future because we feel like that is when we really get to start living our lives, and we are so busy focusing on, the then, that we forget about, the now.

Well, guess what? We are living now just as much as we are going to be living in the future. Nothing changes.

We need to start appreciating everything we have at this very moment of our lives. We will never be this young again, and let’s take advantage of that. Life is exquisitely beautiful and amazing, but we often forget to be grateful for that. Constantly thinking about how you’ll be happier when you’re thinner, when you get a different job, when you graduate, when you start college, or when you get a boyfriend, but that happiness shouldn’t depend on any of those things. Everything that you need to be happy, you already have right now at this very moment.

So let’s start spending more time with friends, more time with family, and more time doing what makes you genuinely happy. Try saying yes to new things more often, it’s extremely rare that you’ll regret it.

We get so caught up into thinking our schoolwork/jobs are taking up our entire life, and that we don’t have time to do anything fun or to do what makes us happy, but we have to realize that that is not true. We have days off from these things, we have hours between, and let’s not forget how much time we spend on Instagram, Pinterest, and Netflix.

I challenge you to do what you always think about doing, what you’re always daydreaming about, whatever it is that you wish you were doing while at work or school.

Because you can, whether it’s hanging out with your friends more, spending more quality time with your family, making art, even starting your own business, you can. Take the free time that you have, and appreciate it, use it to its full use because time is something you can never get back, wasted or not.

Proverbs 4:23

Be careful how you think, your life is shaped by your thoughts.
